Case study UX | VIDAFIT App

Overview

Vida Fit is an application that helps you keep moving, wherever you are. It will show you exercise options that you can do wherever you are. It is designed for all those people who either want to start exercising again or are just about to start.

Roles:
  • UX/UI

  • UX Writing

Tools:
  • FigJam

  • Figma

  • Google Forms

  • Optimal Workshop

Problem:

Not having different options, or simply not knowing what kind of activities can be done in familiar places, crowded places, or outdoors, most people do not know how or where to start to lead a physically active life. And added to this, is the time available to be able to perform a physical activity.

The problem arose when asking: Why do people in general abandon the gym after a certain time of being enrolled in one?
Generally, it is because they do not have time to exercise, they do not know about different activities, and they also have many tasks to do in their day-to-day life.
According to INEGI statistics, only 23.2% of the population does enough physical activity in their free time. The rest could be classified as not physically active, so it is important to get more of the population involved and physically active, as is the case of the percentage shown in the data mentioned above.

Goals:

  1. Create an application to help all those who resume some physical activity and those who want to start one.

  2. Keep people motivated to exercise, even if they do not have a lot of time to do any activity.

  3. May Vida Fit reach many people and be useful for them to keep moving.

Research:

Analysis

Two options were chosen for the research, which were: surveys and analysis of the competition they were the main ones to know from what point we could give a plus, with a new functionality and that the competition was not covering, and the surveys would provide us with data based on what the user says, and what is affecting him, in what way, and so we can measure where we are, where we can focus on a present problem.

Through the surveys, it was possible to know the motivations, demotivation, and preferences that the population has about exercising, and the issue of abandonment when entering a gym. Giving a broader picture of where the problem was going.
Analyzing the competition and what is currently on the market, no application as such can offer different types of activities, all are focused on exercises and/or routines, which are more focused on a gym, and to be able to perform them from home.

Persona:

General Overview

Her needs are to be able to get back to exercise and to keep moving, as well as to learn new things. To not leave aside her tastes and passions, finding a balance between her work life and her free time. And all this to have a healthy life and to be motivated by the people around her.

Implementation of findings:

Overview

During the ideation phase, the team focused on addressing the challenge of helping users identify their free time for exercise. This led to the development of a dedicated exercise application that provides users with daily notifications about exercise routines, including information about the timing, food choices, intensity, and user progress. The team also considered the user flow, including the configuration of personalized exercise plans and the ability to receive notifications to track their training progress. To determine the functionality and organization of the application, a card sorting exercise was conducted to define the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and guide the creation of wireframes for the application.

Wireframes (Lo-fi)

I started to create a low-fidelity wireframe, with pencil and paper, and then I started to structure it with layouts, which would help me to have a broader view when creating the wireframe with atomic design, and that's when the prototype began to take shape, color, and life.

Interface design

  • Main configuration screen:

The custom plan configuration, where the user is prompted for their personal information and can continue to move forward to complete the configuration phase.

  • Level screen:

In this screen it will be crucial, to determine what level of physical state the user is in, and that once the option is selected, it makes a difference compared to the other options in the list, and highlights the decision made by the user.

  • Place screen:

The user will be asked to indicate where the application will be used that it is in the list of options, and to be able to determine the exercises that will be proposed.

Validation

Feedback from the research

Based on the usability tests that were made to the users, it was possible to obtain feedback that strengthened a lot to make the corresponding adjustments within the prototype, so that the user had a more pleasant and bearable experience when performing the configuration flow within the App; The changes were minimal, but could be understood and where to contribute to the visual part, and the understanding by the user.

Conclusion

The development of the Vida Fit project has taught us the importance of empathizing with the user and understanding their needs, especially when it comes to keeping active. We must not assume what the user wants or would do in a given situation, but instead gather more information about their actions, words, and thoughts. Testing is crucial to avoid incorrect assumptions and obtain accurate data and answers. Feedback is valuable, and implementing it or making small modifications can lead to positive changes and help us identify what we may have missed. It is always better to go back to a previous step if doubts or a specific point needs to be changed.
